Grill and gate estimate for fabricators
A fabricator turns a grill or a gate into kilos by adding up the running feet of each section on the drawing, angle, patti or square, turning that length into metres, and multiplying by the weight per metre HMB publishes for it: a 25x25x5 mm angle is 1.766 kg a metre, a 12 mm square 1.130 kg. What that sum leaves out is the little extra a mitred corner and a fresh cut spend, and no published figure puts a number on that margin.

The method below stays inside what HMB actually publishes: a size, a weight per metre, and a 20 foot length. Measure the running feet of each section on the drawing, turn that into kilos, and the number a fabricator is left with is the steel in the job, not yet the bill.

HMB sells all three sections in a full 20 foot length, which is 6.096 metres, so the last column is the metre figure multiplied by 6.096 and rounded. It is arithmetic on HMB's own number, not a second figure HMB prints. Both the black iGrill line and the galvanised Grill Guard line carry the identical weight per metre for every size on this list.
Nine sizes stand for the range a window grill or a gate frame draws from: three angle sizes for a frame's border, three flat sizes for a crossbar or a border strip, three square sizes for the straight uprights. A drawing calling for a size not on this list still converts the same way, at whatever weight per metre that size prints.
The 20 ft column matters because that is the length the section actually arrives in. A running foot on a drawing is never bought on its own; it comes off a 20 ft piece, and what is left over after the cut is the offcut a fabricator either keeps for the next job or does not.
The method
Running feet to kilos, one section at a time
Measure each section separately, because angle, flat and square each carry their own weight per metre. Add up every piece of 25x25x5 mm angle on the drawing in running feet, every piece of 12 mm square, every piece of flat, and keep the three totals apart.
Turn each total into metres at 0.3048 metres to the foot, then multiply by that section's own weight per metre off the table above. 14 running feet of 25x25x5 mm angle is 4.2672 metres, and 4.2672 x 1.766 kg a metre comes to 7.54 kg. The same sum run on the square and the flat gives their own weight, and the three added together is the steel in the job.
This is a drawing sum, not a scale reading. It tells a fabricator what to expect before anything is cut, and the number this shop finally bills against is what the finished piece weighs on the scale here.
One frame, worked through
A window grill, added up start to finish
A 4 ft by 3 ft window grill in 25x25x5 mm angle for the border, six uprights of 12 mm square at 3 ft each, and one 25x6 mm flat crossbar running the 4 ft width.
Frame: the border runs 2 x (4 + 3) = 14 running ft, 4.2672 m, x 1.766 kg a metre = 7.54 kg. Uprights: 6 pieces x 3 ft = 18 running ft, 5.4864 m, x 1.130 kg a metre = 6.20 kg. Crossbar: 4 running ft, 1.2192 m, x 1.177 kg a metre = 1.43 kg.
7.54 + 6.20 + 1.43 = 15.17 kg. That is the steel in this grill, off the drawing, before a torch or a saw has touched anything.
What the running total leaves out
Offcuts, corners, and why the bill runs a little ahead of the drawing
This frame's three sections each fit inside one 20 ft length: 14 ft, 18 ft and 4 ft all sit under 20. Bought as three full pieces, the weight is 10.77 + 6.89 + 7.17 = 24.83 kg, against the 15.17 kg the frame itself weighs. The difference is the offcut, a 6 ft drop off the angle, a 2 ft drop off the square, a 16 ft drop off the flat, steel that goes toward the next job rather than this one.
A fabricator cutting to the finished weight instead of buying the full piece still spends a little more than the running-feet sum, because a mitred corner eats a sliver at 45 degrees that a butt joint does not, and the first bite of a fresh cut is never exactly the drawing's own line. No published figure puts a percentage on that margin; it is a workshop's own judgement, built up over the sizes it cuts every week, which is why the number on the scale here is what the bill is finally raised against.
HMB's own sale unit for these sections is the piece, the kilo or the tonne, so both routes, a full 20 ft length or the weight cut close to size, are open on the same call. Which one suits a job usually turns on whether more of the same section is going into the next frame too.

Multiply the running feet by 0.3048 to get metres, then multiply by that section's own weight per metre off HMB's list. 14 running feet of 25x25x5 mm angle comes to 4.2672 metres, and 4.2672 x 1.766 kg a metre is 7.54 kg. Angle, flat and square each carry their own weight per metre, so keep the three running totals apart until the very last step.
Poori 20 ft length lene par bill zyada kyu aata hai?
Because the offcut's weight travels with the length it was cut from. The worked example above runs a frame at 15.17 kg, but the same three sections bought as three full 20 ft pieces come to 24.83 kg. The gap is the angle, square and flat left over after the cut, steel that goes toward the next job rather than this one and is not wasted if that next job uses it.
Corner ke jodo par extra material lagta hai kya?
A little, and no source publishes a percentage for it. A 45 degree mitred corner spends a sliver a straight running-feet sum does not count, and the first cut off a fresh length rarely lands exactly on the drawing's own line. That margin is a fabricator's own workshop judgement, not a printed figure.

Every section on the drawing, added up separately. The worked example here runs a 4 ft by 3 ft window grill: the 25x25x5 mm angle border at 7.54 kg, six 12 mm square uprights at 6.20 kg, and one 25x6 mm flat crossbar at 1.43 kg, for a running total of 15.17 kg before anything is cut.
Estimate me weld rod aur hinge bhi ginte hain kya?
No. This method weighs the angle, flat and square section only. Weld rod, hinges, bolts and paint are a separate line, and no weight for any of them is on the table above.
