SAIL is Steel Authority of India Limited, the main-mill make a drawing or a tender asks for by name. The SAIL sariya that comes into this godown is SAIL SeQR, their retail line. In sheet, SAIL reaches this counter under the Bokaro label. Bokaro is a plant of SAIL's, not a second company. It all loads at one premises on Meera Talkies Road and goes out in our own vehicles.
Which SAIL diameters and which sections are standing on the floor changes week to week. Name the size, the grade and the shape on the call and we tell you what is in before anything is fixed. SAIL SeQR moves through this rack at the pace the drawing calls for it, so a call before the vehicle is booked saves a second trip. What we hold
SAIL at this counter, line by line
Sariya, four structural sections and three sheets come in under SAIL or its Bokaro plant. Colour chadra is not one of them, and the note under the list says why.
- TMT Bar (Sariya)SAIL TMT is the line we reach for first when a slab or a tender wants a main-mill make: straight lengths, and no complaints coming back in the years we have sold it. SAIL publishes its SeQR home builder bars in 8, 10, 12, 16, 20 and 25 mm at a 12.0 metre length. Which diameters are standing changes week to week, so name the size and the grade on the call.
- ChannelSAIL publishes eight plant rolled ISMC sections, MC 75x40 through MC 400x100, with a mass against each. Those eight are what we quote against the SAIL name; for any other channel size ask us and we tell you what make it comes in.
- JoistSAIL joist for sheds, godown frames and platforms. Give us the depth and the flange the drawing asks for and we tell you which sections are standing and which come on order.
- Beam (I-Beam)SAIL's structurals brochure publishes five ISMB sections, MB 100x50 through MB 300x140. It also states that sections off its medium structural and universal section mills normally come in 12 metre lengths, other lengths by agreement, which is worth knowing before a shed is set out.
- CR SheetCold rolled sheet. SAIL gives Bokaro as the delivery plant, and 0.25 to 2.0 mm as the thickness range, in the CR1 to CR4 qualities of IS 513. It lists the sheet for general engineering and fabrication work.
- GP SheetGalvanised plain sheet. SAIL publishes GP coils at 0.4 to 2 mm and GP sheets at 0.35 to 1.25 mm, with coating classes running from 80 up to 600 gsm. Thickness and coating are two separate numbers, so tell us both.
- GC Sheet (Tina Chadra)Corrugated galvanised chadra, which SAIL publishes at 0.5 to 1.25 mm and lists for roofing and industrial sheds. Bokaro is the name it carries when it reaches this counter.
SAIL publishes no colour coated or pre-painted sheet at all, at Bokaro or anywhere else. Whatever colour chadra is doing the rounds under that name, we will not bill it to you as SAIL. Ask us for colour chadra by profile, colour and length and we tell you what make it is.
Reading the tag
Four SAIL names, and they do not mean one thing
SAIL TMT is the plain counter word for SAIL sariya. SAIL SeQR is SAIL's own retail line and the one that reaches this godown; SAIL specifies it against IS 1786 in Fe 500D and Fe 550D. SAIL TMT Project is a name that goes round the trade, not a SAIL product line. Where a job is tendered we work from the grade and the certificate, not from those two words. Bokaro is the fourth, and Bokaro is a plant. Written on a sheet order it names where that sheet was rolled.
Sorting those four out is most of what a bundle tag is for, and it is worth thirty seconds before the strap is cut. What decides acceptance on sariya is the ISI mark and the certificate that travels with the load, not the name printed on the tag. The mark, the two sizes the quality control order does not reach, and the size and weight table are all set out on the TMT Bar (Sariya) page, and the same table with the arithmetic written out under it is in the sariya weight chart.
Angle, flat and plate
Heavy sections come from SAIL, light and medium from HMB and Solar
SAIL rolls angle, flat and plate, and we sell SAIL angle, flat and plate here alongside SAIL channel and joist: the heavy sizes on our fabrication rack come from SAIL. The light and medium angle and flat that most fabrication jobs ask for carry the Solar and HMB names instead, and plate and HR sheet outside the SAIL sizes come in unbranded; ask for them by thickness and size.
Say the shape, the size and whether the job is tendered, and we tell you which name it comes in under. If the approved make says SAIL and the shape you need is an angle, say so on the call, because the answer for angle is not the answer for sariya. And SAIL, wide as it runs here, still does not cover a whole build: cement, pipe and roofing come in under other names and ride out on the same vehicle.

Shape, size, grade, quantity, village
A SAIL load is fixed in three steps on the phone: what is standing on the rack that morning, what the bundle tag says, and what the certificate carries. Come with the shape, the size, the grade and the quantity, and the village if it is going out, and the rest of the order rides on the same vehicle in our own vehicles, delivered to all 34 blocks of the three districts.

SAIL is stocked here as a dealer and supplier: purchased by us, invoiced by us, moved by us. What settles a call either way is the same: which SAIL line is on the floor today and what is printed on the bundle tag.

Bokaro chadra bhi SAIL ka hi maal hota hai?
Yes. Bokaro is a SAIL plant, so the word points at where the sheet was rolled. Read us what is printed on your bill and we match it against what came in. SAIL publishes no colour coated sheet, so colour chadra sold as Bokaro is not something we will bill as SAIL material.
Supaul aur Madhepura me SAIL ka maal pahuncha dete hain?
Yes. SAIL material goes out in our own vehicles to all 34 blocks of Saharsa, Supaul and Madhepura, from a tempo up to a full truck depending on the load and the approach road. Sariya travels in 12 metre lengths, so tell us the village and the last stretch of road when you call. Delivery is charged at market rates and the rest of the order loads on the same trip.
Tender me SAIL likha hai, kya kar sakte hain?
Tell us on the call, before the order is fixed. Where a tender names SAIL as the make, the job still has to satisfy three things. The grade, the size, and a certificate tying the load back to a mill. That is what we work from. Say whether a test certificate has to travel with the material and we will tell you what can be arranged for that shape and that quantity.
