Angle is the L shaped steel a fabricator frames a job with. The outside of a window grill, the frame of a gate, the legs of a godown rack, the brace on a shed: all of it is angle, welded corner to corner, with round bar, square bar or patti filling the space inside. Jay Shree Infra keeps it at the Saharsa godown in plain MS and in galvanised, under Solar and under HMB, and workshops in Saharsa, Supaul and Madhepura take it a few lengths at a time, job after job.
An angle is sized by both its legs and its thickness, and all three go on the order: 40x40x5 means two 40 mm legs, 5 mm thick. The sizes we keep run from 20x20x3 mm at 0.90 kg per metre up to 50x50x6 mm at 4.50 kg per metre. The heavier equal angles a shed frame or a platform takes stand on the other rack beside the joist and the channel, and the whole family is on the structural steel page.
Sections and weight
Twelve sizes, 20x20x3 to 50x50x6, and what each weighs
Angle sizes from 20x20x3 mm to 50x50x6 mm, with HMB's weight per metre against each.
| Sectionleg x leg x thickness | Weightper metre |
|---|---|
| 20x20x3 mm | 0.90 kg/m |
| 25x25x3 mm | 1.107 kg/m |
| 25x25x5 mm | 1.766 kg/m |
| 30x30x3 mm | 1.342 kg/m |
| 30x30x5 mm | 2.20 kg/m |
| 35x35x5 mm | 2.60 kg/m |
| 35x35x6 mm | 3.00 kg/m |
| 40x40x3 mm | 1.813 kg/m |
| 40x40x5 mm | 3.00 kg/m |
| 40x40x6 mm | 3.50 kg/m |
| 50x50x5 mm | 3.80 kg/m |
| 50x50x6 mm | 4.50 kg/m |
The weights are HMB's own figures and hold for its galvanised Grill Guard sections as well. If you need a size that is not in the table, the sum a fabricator already uses gets you close: leg plus leg minus thickness, times the thickness, times 7.85 grams. On 25x25x3, 30x30x3, 40x40x3 and 25x25x5 it lands exactly, and on the rest it is within a few percent.
Kis kaam me lagta hai
Grill and gate work takes the most of it. A window grill is angle round the outside with square or round bar inside, a gate is a heavier angle frame so it does not sag on the hinge, and patti does the straps and the flat bracing. A godown rack is angle legs with a sheet or a plank across them, and a tin shed gets its frame and its cross bracing from the thicker sections.
For a grill or a gate that lives outdoors, galvanised angle carries its own coat against rust and takes paint over it; plain MS costs less and is fine indoors or under a coat of primer and paint. Local workshops buy a few lengths and come back for the same size on the next job. Fabricators, thekedars and project contractors buy against a cut list and by weight, and on tendered work the structural grade against IS 2062 counts as much as the section, with the certificate travelling with the material.
The thickness is where the weight is
At a 40 mm leg there are three thicknesses: 40x40x3 at 1.813 kg per metre, 40x40x5 at 3.00 and 40x40x6 at 3.50. Same leg, nearly double the steel from the first to the last. Angle goes out by weight as often as by piece, so the thickness moves the bill further than the leg does. Say it on the call, and check it on the slip when the material arrives.
Twenty feet on the rack, kilograms on the bill
A full length is 20 ft, which is 6.1 metres, and the weight in the table is per metre. So one full length of 25x25x5 comes to about 10.8 kg and one of 40x40x6 to about 21.3 kg. A grill estimated in running feet and a bill made in kilos meet at that number. Where the deal is on weight the load still goes over the scale, the same way it does for sariya on the sariya weight chart. Cut lengths can be arranged where a job or a narrow lane needs them.
Equal angle, and the sections that get called angle
Everything in the table is equal angle, both legs the same. Unequal angle, one leg longer than the other, we bring in on request, so give us both legs and the thickness and we will say what can be done and how long it takes. Gate channel and Z angle come from the same HMB line and get asked for as angle at this counter, but they are separate sections. Ask for them by name.
Brands
Whose angle we keep
Two names, Solar and HMB, each in a plain side and a galvanised side. Both are what we recommend for grill and gate work: clean finish, straight lengths, and stocked here long enough that the fabricators around Saharsa ask for them by name. Not every size is in every brand on a given day, so say the section and the name together when you ring and we confirm what is standing.
- Solar StructureShop's PickSolar is the angle we sell the most of for grill and gate work, in plain MS and as Solar GI on the galvanised side. It comes from the Alaknanda TMT group's mill, and we have kept it for years with no complaints coming back: even section, straight lengths, welds cleanly. Our first pick for a grill or a gate frame.
- HMBShop's PickHMB iGrill is the plain steel line and HMB Grill Guard the galvanised one, and we supply and distribute for HMB. The twelve sizes and weights in the table are HMB's, and both lines run 20x20x3 to 50x50x6 in 20 ft lengths. Good finish and consistent weight per metre, so a bill made off the table matches the scale. Ask for the galvanised one as Grill Guard, or just say galvanised HMB.
Above 50x50x6 mm equal angle runs much heavier, out to 200x200x25 mm on SAIL's list. Whether a section that size can go on a vehicle to your site is a phone call, so ask before you plan the shed on it.

Where the sizes and the weights come from
The sizes and weights in the table are HMB's own, and the heavier sections are SAIL's. Angle is rolled to IS 808 for the section and the structural grade is IS 2062; on a tendered job the certificate that comes with the material says which grade you have.
Questions
Angle ke sawal
40x40 angle me 5 mm aur 6 mm ka farak kitna hai?
Half a kilo per metre. 40x40x5 is 3.00 kg per metre and 40x40x6 is 3.50, so a full 20 ft length of the heavier one carries about 3 kg more steel. Both look alike standing on the rack, so say the thickness when you order and read it off the slip when the material lands.
Unequal angle bhi mil jayega?
Yes, on request. What we keep on the rack is equal angle, both legs the same; unequal angle we bring in for a job. Tell us the long leg, the short leg, the thickness and how many lengths, and we will say what can be done and how long it takes. On a tendered job say the approved make at the start of the call.
Ek 20 ft angle ka weight kitna padta hai?
Multiply the kg per metre in the table by 6.1. One 20 ft length of 25x25x5 comes to about 10.8 kg and one of 40x40x6 to about 21.3 kg. Twenty feet is the length a full piece arrives in, for Solar and for HMB both.
Solar angle aur HMB angle me kya farak hai?
For a grill or a gate, take whichever is standing in your size on the day; we recommend both. Solar is what we sell the most of and our first pick for grill work, and HMB is the line we distribute, with a weight per metre against every size, so a bill by weight is easy to check. Both come plain and galvanised. Say the size and we tell you which name it is standing in.
Grill ke liye GI angle lena chahiye ya black?
Outdoors, GI. A galvanised angle carries its own zinc coat, so a balcony grill or a boundary gate that takes rain does not start rusting at the welds in the first monsoon, and it takes paint over the coat. Indoors, or on a frame that will be primed and painted straight away, plain MS does the job for less. Say where the grill is going and we will say which one to take.
Gali tang hai, 20 ft angle andar tak pahunch jayega?
Say it when you ring and we plan the vehicle round it. A 20 ft length will not turn every lane, and the last stretch of road decides the vehicle before the weight does. Tell us the village and what the approach is like, and whether the pieces can be cut here before they load, because a cut list reaches doorways a full length never will. The vehicles are ours and the carriage follows that route at the market rate.
