Channel is the C shaped section a shed frame, a godown door frame and a loading platform get built out of. Jay Shree Infra keeps it at its Saharsa godown, in SAIL, in Shyam Metalics and under the MC label, and it goes out on our own vehicles to Saharsa, Supaul and Madhepura. Three numbers name a channel: the depth, the flange width and the web thickness, so MC 100x50x5 stands 100 mm deep with a 50 mm flange on a 5 mm web. Two different things get asked for by this one word here, and the gap between them is wide. The gate channel a collapsible gate is made from is a 20x10 mm section, published at well under a kilogram per metre. The lightest MC section we keep is 7.14 kg per metre and the heaviest is 50.10. Say which of the two you want at the start of the call and a trip gets saved.

The column is the nominal mass of a designation. Eight of these twelve, the 75x40, 100x50, 125x65, 150x75, 200x75, 250x82, 300x90 and 400x100, are on SAIL's own published structural list; for the 125x66, the 150x76, the 175x75 and the 200x76, confirm the exact section with us on the call before the load is made up. What a delivered length weighs is a weighbridge question.
Kis kaam me lagta hai
Shed and godown frames take most of what leaves this rack. After those it is platforms, machine bases, the frame a warehouse door hangs on, and the heavy members of a roof truss. Workshop fabricators, thekedars running a shed job and project contractors working to a drawing pull from the same stack, and the project side usually buys once and by the tonne.
One word covers a sevenfold spread in weight. A metre of MC 75x40x4.8 is 7.14 kg and a metre of MC 400x100x8.8 is 50.10, so over a full mill length that is the difference between a section two men walk off a tempo and one that wants a gang and a firm place to lay it down. A depth on its own does not name a section
Three depths come twice. SAIL's published list carries MC 150x75 at 16.80 kg per metre, and we also keep MC 150x76x6.5 at 17.70, a second section at the same 150 mm depth. The same doubling sits at 125 and at 200. The flange differs by a millimetre and the web by most of one, which nobody sees across a yard, and by the tonne that gap is a different bill. Read all three numbers off the drawing or off the mistri's slip.
The flange sits at an angle, and a bolt finds out
SAIL's published table puts the flange slope on its medium channels at 96 degrees, so the inside face of the flange runs at a taper instead of square to the web. The consequence is plain: with a parallel flange a plate bolts straight on, and with a tapered flange the bolt shank ends up bent unless a tapered washer goes under the nut. It costs nothing to allow for, and everything to find out after the holes are drilled. Ask for the flange thickness with the section and it goes on the slip with the rest.
The grade is on the drawing
SAIL publishes its structural grades as IS 2062 E250BR, E300BR, E350BR, E410BR and E450BR, with the weather resistant IS 11587 WR 480A and 480B available besides. The material standard is IS 2062 (Part 1):2025. On tendered work go by the drawing, by the marking rolled into the section and by the certificate that travels with the load. IS 808 is the standard these designations come from. Say the grade with the section when you ring +91 6202 967 218, and the slip carries both.
Brands
Whose channel reaches the heavy rack
Not every size is in every brand on a given day. Give the section and the brand in the same breath and the answer comes back on the call.
MC means two things at the counter. In MC 100x50x5 it is the section designation, medium channel, and every mill in the country writes it that way. MC is also one of the three lines on our heavy rack, beside SAIL and Shyam Metalics. So MC channel on its own is half a question. Say the numbers with it, and on tender work go by what is rolled into the steel and by what the test certificate says.

Channel ke sawal
Gate channel aur ye wala channel ek hi cheez hai?
No. Gate channel is a 20x10 mm section published at well under a kilogram per metre, and it goes into collapsible gates. The MC channel we keep begins at MC 75x40x4.8 and ends at MC 400x100x8.8. Both get called channel at the counter, so say gate channel or say the MC designation and there is nothing left to sort out.
Sirf 150 ka channel bol dein to chalega?
It leaves a gap, because 150 covers two sections we keep. MC 150x75x5.7 is 16.80 kg per metre and MC 150x76x6.5 is 17.70, and by the tonne those are two bills. Give us the web thickness along with the depth. Where the drawing is not to hand, say what the span is and what sits on it.
Channel me kaun sa grade lena chahiye?
That is the drawing's call and the engineer's, and the shop cannot make it for you. SAIL publishes its structural grades as IS 2062 E250BR, E300BR, E350BR, E410BR and E450BR. Read the one your drawing carries and say it on the phone, and on tendered work say whether a mill certificate has to travel with the load.
Channel poori lambai me hi milti hai?
It arrives in mill lengths. SAIL publishes 12 metres as the normal supply length for sections off its Medium Structural Mill and Universal Section Mill, and says other lengths are possible by agreement with the mill. What can be cut here, and what a stock length leaves over on your frame, is settled on the call with the vehicle and the unloading point.
12 meter channel site tak kaise pahunchega?
On our own vehicles, and on a 12 metre section the length decides which one goes before the tonnage does. The approach road and the unloading point matter as much as the weight here: a tempo, a tractor trolley or a truck is picked against what the site can take. Tell us the section, the count, the village and what the last stretch of road is like, and the cartage for that route is quoted at the market rate on the same call. If a full length will not turn into your lane, say so before the load is made up, because the cutting is settled at this end.

All of that costs nothing before the holes are drilled.
