CR sheet is hot rolled steel sent through the rolls a second time, cold, so it comes out thinner and smooth where hot rolled comes out black. Jay Shree Infra sells it from the Saharsa godown to fabricators, workshops, thekedars and project companies, and loads go out in our own vehicles to Saharsa, Supaul and Madhepura. Tata Steel and SAIL are the two makers we sell it under, Tata's cold rolled family being Tata Steelium. Trunk, box and almirah makers are steady buyers of this sheet too, and they take it in every size off the steel sheets rack. The standard behind all of it is IS 513, which comes in two parts.
What the second pass buys is control of the millimetre. SAIL publishes a thickness tolerance of plus or minus 0.03 mm on its cold rolled. On the same mill's paper a hot rolled sheet in the 3 to 5 mm band is allowed a quarter of a millimetre either way, about eight times as much. That gap decides which of the three sheets on the steel sheets rack a job belongs on.

Two Steelium lines, and how thin each runs

Both lines are published at widths up to about 1540 mm with the length cut to order, so those two figures sit here instead of in a column that would read the same on every row. SAIL publishes its cold rolled separately and delivers it off Bokaro: 0.25 to 2.0 mm thick, 876 to 1580 mm wide, with the width tolerance running plus 3 and minus nothing. Neither list is a stock list. What is standing against a thickness on a given day comes back on the call.
Kis kaam me lagta hai
Panels, cabinets, furniture, electrical enclosures and precision fabrication are what CR sheet goes into. SAIL's own page runs auto parts, general engineering and fabrication, precision tubes and white goods. Both point one way: cold rolled is for a piece that gets cut, bent or drawn into shape and then finished, and the finish is why the face matters. Where the piece will stand out in the weather unpainted, the zinc on a GP sheet is the thing being bought and this is not that sheet.
Local fabricators, the bigger fabrication shops, thekedars and project construction companies are the buyers on this sheet. The number a cold rolled order turns on is the thickness, and at this end of the range it moves the bill fast: the same size sheet at 1.0 mm weighs a quarter more than it does at 0.8 mm. Take that number off the drawing and read it out on the call.
Bare on both faces, and shipped under oil
Nothing is coated on to cold rolled steel. There is no zinc on it and no paint, which is what makes the face useful and what leaves it open to rust. SAIL calls that face blemish free and puts its reflectivity above 90 percent, and on the same page says the material goes out under rust preventive oil at 0.5 to 3.0 grams per square metre, in moisture proof packing.
That film is for the road and the godown, and it does no work once the piece is made. Primer and paint are the buyer's side, and the oil has to be off the steel before either goes on. Read the packing line as a storage instruction as much as a specification: bare steel and damp air are what it was written against.
CR1 to CR4, EDD and IF
The Quality Control Order titles IS 513 Part 1 cold forming and drawing purpose, and Part 2 high tensile and multi-phase steel. So on Part 1 material the grade names what the sheet will take as it is bent and drawn, and the high tensile grades sit in the other part. SAIL prints its qualities as CR1, CR2, CR3 and CR4, and publishes an r bar value of 1.7 minimum against EDD, which is a forming figure and not a strength one.

Serial 20, Serial 21, and no size left out
Cold reduced carbon steel sheet is Serial No. 20 of Schedule 1 of the Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order, 2024, notified as S.O. 3716(E) on 29 August 2024. That entry reads IS 513 (Part 1):2016, cold reduced carbon steel sheets and strip, cold forming and drawing purpose, with immediate effect. Part 2 follows at Serial No. 21 on the same terms. Neither entry takes anything out by size, so the Standard Mark belongs on certified material at every thickness in the range.
What a given load is carrying is worth asking about while the order is being placed, and the edition of the standard printed on its paper is worth reading rather than assuming. The questions below say why.
Brands
Tata Steelium, and one SAIL plant
Tata reaches this rack as Tata Steelium, its cold rolled family and the name most CR sheet buyers here ask for. SAIL delivers its cold rolled off one plant. Say which of the two you were told to buy, with the thickness beside it.
Not every thickness is in every name on a given day. Bokaro is a label we carry against this sheet, and it names a works rather than a maker: SAIL gives BSL, the Bokaro plant, as where its cold rolled is delivered from, so the label points at a SAIL works and not at a second company. Whether this bazar uses the word as a brand is not confirmed, so we treat it only as a plant name. Which thickness is standing under either name on the day you ring is the call.

Cold rolled ke sawal
CR sheet par jang lag jayegi?
If it is left bare, yes. Cold rolled carries no zinc and no paint, so the only thing between the face and the air is the rust preventive oil the mill puts on, which SAIL publishes at 0.5 to 3.0 grams per square metre. Prime and paint the piece once it is fabricated, and keep the sheets dry until then.
0.8 mm likha hai to poori 0.8 milegi?
Within the published tolerance, yes. SAIL allows plus or minus 0.03 mm on the thickness of its cold rolled and plus 3 mm minus nothing on the width, so a 0.8 mm sheet may measure 0.77 or 0.83 and still be to specification.
CR1 aur EDD ka matlab kya hota hai?
They are grade names off two different makers' lists. CR1 to CR4 are the qualities SAIL prints against its cold rolled, and EDD and IF are the two Tata Steelium lines we stock. IS 513 Part 1, which covers both, is the cold forming and drawing standard, so the names are about how the sheet behaves under a bend and a draw. Take the grade off your drawing and say it on the call.
SAIL 2008 ka standard likhta hai aur order 2016 ka, sahi kaun sa hai?
Both are right on their own paper. SAIL's cold rolled page prints its grades against IS-513:2008, reaffirmed 2010, with Amendment-1, and the Quality Control Order names IS 513 (Part 1):2016 and Part 2:2016 at Serial Nos. 20 and 21. How the two editions line up is not settled, so the number that decides a job is the one on the consignment paper you are handed.
Patli sheet ka load kaise bhejte hain?
Flat and supported, and the thickness is what plans it. Say the thickness when the order is placed, because 0.25 mm and 2 mm do not carry the same way on a kachcha approach road. Our own vehicles run to Saharsa, Supaul and Madhepura, tempo up to truck, and the size of the pieces and the road decide which one goes.

The second decimal is the order
Cold rolled lives in the second decimal, and 0.8 against 1.0 is a quarter more steel on the same size sheet. Say the thickness first, then the size of the piece and how many. Say also whether the face is being painted, because the oil the mill ships it under has to come off before the primer goes on.
