Angle, patti and square sizes for grill work

HMB's own published list runs MS angle from 20x20x3 mm at 0.90 kg a metre to 50x50x6 mm at 4.50 kg a metre, flat (patti) from 19x6 mm at 0.969 kg a metre to 50x12 mm at 4.710 kg a metre, and square from 8 mm at 0.502 kg a metre to 25 mm at 4.810 kg a metre. These three sections are what a window grill or a gate frame in Saharsa is built from, and the weight per metre is what turns a chosen length into a bill.

Jay Shree Infra keeps angle, flat and square on the structural steel rack in Saharsa and sends it out into Supaul and Madhepura on our own vehicles. Solar, rolled at the Alaknanda group's mill, and HMB, in its iGrill black and Grill Guard galvanised lines, are this shop's first pick for grill and gate work. Not every size is in every brand on a given day, and a phone call confirms what is standing on the rack today.

Angle is the L shaped section a frame's border is welded from. Flat fills a gap between two uprights or runs as a border strip of its own. Square gives the straight vertical bars a window grill needs. HMB's own listing for all three prints the same two words among its uses for every one of them: grills and gates.

iGrill (MS) and Grill Guard (GI) print the identical weight for every angle size and every square size on this list, so the finish column reads MS and GI together on those two. Flat is the one line where the two do not fully match: iGrill's own list runs three sizes past the top of Grill Guard's, at 50x6, 50x10 and 50x12 mm, and Grill Guard's list carries two sizes iGrill's does not, at 32x6 and 40x5 mm.

Twelve angle sizes, thirteen flat sizes and six square sizes make up this list, and every weight on it is HMB's own published figure, not a number worked out from the section's dimensions. HMB sells all three by the 20 foot piece, 6.096 metres, so the weight per metre times 6.096 gives the weight of one full piece before it is cut.

Solar carries the same three shapes off the Alaknanda group's mill, in black and in galvanised, and it is the other line this shop keeps the deepest stock in for grill and gate work. Solar carries no published weight table the way HMB does; a piece goes on the scale here before it goes on the bill, the same as any bar without one.

The math

Turning a length into a weight, and a weight into a bill

A 20 foot HMB piece runs 6.096 metres. A 50x50x6 mm angle at 4.50 kg a metre comes to about 27.4 kg before any of it is cut, and a 25 mm square at 4.810 kg a metre comes to about 29.3 kg. Fabricators here buy a small grill by the piece and a full gate or a run of window grills across a house by weight, once the sizes on the drawing are fixed.

Ring +91 6202 967 218 with the section, the size, the finish and the length or the weight you need, and today's rate is quoted against exactly that.

MS ya GI

Black angle or galvanised, for a grill or a gate

Grill Guard runs the same sizes as iGrill in a zinc coated finish, an in house galvanising process HMB's own page describes as multiple layers over the base MS section. A gate standing in the open through Saharsa's monsoon usually takes the galvanised line; a window grill going up behind a coat of paint, or an angle bracing a shed wall nobody looks at twice, is usually ordered in black.

Both are welded and cut the same way at a fabricator's shop. The coating is what changes between the two rows of the same size on the table above, not the weight.

At this counter

Solar and HMB, side by side on the rack

Both are what this shop points a grill or a gate job toward. HMB gives the published size and weight list above; Solar gives years of stock in the same shapes and no complaints back, off a mill that also rolls Alaknanda TMT under the same roof. Which one goes on a particular job is usually a matter of what is standing that week rather than a difference in the steel. Read what each brand carries on the

Solar and HMB pages, or ring the shop directly with the shape and the size.

Where a drawing decides

Rolling tolerance, and the size a job actually needs

A published weight per metre is a nominal figure a mill rolls to within a tolerance, not a number a scale matches to the second decimal on every piece. Small variation between one bundle and the next is normal, which is why a weight based bill is settled on the scale here rather than off the table above.

Which size a grill or a gate needs is a fabricator's own call, made against the opening it is going into and the load the frame has to carry. The table above only turns whatever size is chosen into a weight.

Questions

Grill aur gate ke saman ke sawal

Ek poore grill ka weight kaise nikale, angle, patti aur square milakar?

Multiply each section's own weight per metre by the length used, then add the three totals. A 40x40x5 mm angle runs 3.00 kg a metre, a 25x5 mm flat runs 0.981 kg a metre and a 12 mm square runs 1.130 kg a metre, so a frame using two metres of each would come to roughly 10.2 kg before wastage. Ring +91 6202 967 218 with the actual lengths for a real figure and today's rate.

HMB angle aur Grill Guard angle ke weight me farak hai kya?

No. HMB's own list prints the identical weight for every angle size whether it is the black iGrill line or the galvanised Grill Guard line, and the same holds for square. The coating changes, the kilogram per metre does not. Flat is the one exception, where each line's own list runs a few sizes the other does not carry.

20 ft se chhota tukda mil sakta hai kya?

HMB sells the section in a full 20 foot length, and this shop cuts it down to whatever the job needs. Order the full length and tell us the finished piece sizes you want it cut to, and both go on the vehicle together.

Angle, patti aur square teeno ek hi finish me lena zaroori hai kya?

No, mixing finishes on one job is common. A fabricator often takes black angle for a frame that will be painted and galvanised square for the uprights that stay outside, or the other way round, and each line is billed by its own weight.

Solar me bhi yeh saari sizes milti hain?

Solar carries the same three shapes, angle, flat and square, across roughly the same size range as HMB's list above, off the Alaknanda group's mill. Solar's own weight per piece is not on a published table and is read off the scale here.

Counter par size batate waqt kya kya bolna hota hai?

Section (angle, flat or square), size, thickness where it applies, finish (MS or GI), the length or weight you need, and the brand, HMB or Solar. That much on +91 6202 967 218 is enough to fix the size and the bill.

Before you order

Section, size and finish, fixed on one call

Each one settles something the table above cannot by itself.

  • Angle chahiye, flat, ya square?

A frame's border is angle, a gap or a border strip is flat, and the straight upright bars are square. Most grills and gates use two of the three together.

  • Kaunsi size aur thickness?

Match it to the table above, or tell us the size off the drawing; a size not on this list can still be brought in on request.

  • MS black ya GI galvanised?

Outdoor and monsoon facing work usually goes GI; indoor work that gets painted usually goes black.

  • Poori 20 ft length chahiye ya kata hua?

A piece comes in a full 20 foot length; say whether you want it whole or cut to the finished sizes your fabricator needs.

  • HMB ya Solar?

HMB's size and weight are on the table above. Solar carries the same shapes and is weighed here before it goes on the bill.

Contact

The size confirms in one call

Angle, flat and square all come off the same 20 foot length, so the size, the finish and the count decide the weight before anything else does. Ring +91 6202 967 218 with the shape, the size and how much you need, HMB's own list or Solar off the rack, and we will tell you what is standing today and cut it to the length your grill or gate needs.
