Why sariya rates change

A sariya rate is not one number because it is built from five: the grade, the diameter, which mill's own list it is quoted against, the vehicle carrying the load, and the day itself. Each one is set somewhere real, in a standard, in a gazette order or in a mill's own notice, and each one still has to be asked fresh.

  • 1 table of figures
  • Own delivery, 34 blocks
  • Open all 7 days

Jay Shree Infra sells sariya across the counter in Saharsa and carries it out into Supaul and Madhepura, and every bundle that leaves the godown is quoted the same way: fresh, against the grade and diameter standing in front of the buyer that morning, never off a list kept on a shelf. Not every grade and diameter is in stock in every brand on a given day. What actually moves the number between one call and the next is below, in the standard's own words, in what the mills themselves publish, and in how this shop delivers.

Steel is a commodity before it is a bundle. A mill buys iron ore, scrap and sponge iron at whatever the market is doing that week, rolls it to a grade and a diameter IS 1786:2008 sets out, and prints its own reference price on its own site when it chooses to, not on a date every mill shares. Two bundles standing on the same rack, one SAIL and one another maker, can move on two different days for that reason alone, before the diameter or the vehicle even enter it.

What actually moves

Five things a rate is built from before it is one number

What sets each factor, and why it moves the figure, as the standard, the gazette order and this shop's own delivery lay them out.

Scroll the table sideways to see every column

What changesWhat it isWhy it moves the figure
IS gradeFe 500, Fe 500D, Fe 550, Fe 550D or Fe 600, the five rows IS 1786:2008's amended grade table sets outEach grade fixes its own minimum yield, tensile strength and elongation, and the D grades hold tighter carbon, sulphur and phosphorus limits, so a mill's own cost of rolling to one grade is not its cost of rolling to another
Diameter5.5 mm to 32 mm, the range this shop stocksThe 2024 Quality Control Order makes the ISI mark compulsory from 8 mm upward, leaves 6 mm to a mill's own voluntary licence, and puts 5.5 mm outside IS 1786 altogether, so a small bundle and a large one are not certified the same way
Which mill's own listA primary producer such as SAIL posts a Maximum Retail Reference Price notice on its own site most months, and some months a second one marked revised with its own effective dateSAIL's own site carries a December 2022 notice and a January 2023 one revised twenty six days into that month, both under the same MRRP heading, so a mill's own cost decides the date, not the calendar
Vehicle and routeTempo, tractor or truck, out of this shop's own fleet, for the block a load is going toFreight is charged at the market rate for that route, and it moves with the vehicle a load actually needs, apart from whatever the steel itself is quoted at that morning
Sale basisPiece, bundle, kilogram or metric tonneWhich basis applies to a line depends on the grade and on how that brand is selling it that day, so two diameters standing on the same rack can be quoted on two different bases

The grade and diameter rows come off IS 1786:2008 and the 2024 Quality Control Order. The mill's own list row comes off SAIL's own Maximum Retail Reference Price notices, posted on sail.co.in. The vehicle and sale basis rows come off how this shop itself delivers and sells.

Grade and diameter are fixed the day a bar is rolled, and neither one changes after that. What moves is everything downstream of them: a mill's own cost of holding a grade's chemistry, whether a diameter needs a licensed mark on it, and what it costs to move a bundle out of the godown that morning.

The last three rows move on their own calendar, not the standard's. A mill posts its own list when its own cost changes, a second mill keeps a different date, and freight follows the vehicle a load actually needs. None of the five waits for the others.

IS 1786 and the Order, on the grade and the size

What IS 1786 fixes before a call ever happens

Grade is not a marketing word, it is a row in a table. IS 1786:2008, as its 2017 amendment sets the figures, gives Fe 500, Fe 500D, Fe 550, Fe 550D and Fe 600 their own minimum yield, tensile strength and elongation, and a mill rolling to the D grades is also holding tighter limits on carbon, sulphur and phosphorus than the plain grade beside it. None of that is optional once a grade is named, and it is why a mill's own price list moves grade by grade rather than reading flat across all five.

Diameter carries its own line in a different order. The Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order, 2024, S.O. 3716(E), makes the ISI mark compulsory on sariya from 8 mm upward, with a test certificate that has to travel with the load. 6 mm can carry the mark where a mill chooses to hold a licence on it, and 5.5 mm sits outside IS 1786 altogether, a trade size the standard does not list. A bundle that needs a licensed mark and one that does not are not the same thing to make, and that difference sits inside the diameter, not beside it.

One mill, several dates

Why one mill's own price moves inside a month

SAIL posts a Maximum Retail Reference Price notice on its own site, and most months carry one. Some carry two: a notice for the month, and a second one inside the same month marked revised, with its own effective date set against it. Nothing about the steel itself has to change between the two notices for that second one to appear; the mill's own cost did, and its own paper says so before anyone at a counter has to.

A second brand standing on the same rack keeps its own calendar entirely. Two mills rarely move on the same day, so a SAIL bundle and the brand beside it can be two different questions on one call, and each gets answered on its own rather than off one shared figure.

At this counter

How a sariya order actually gets priced here

Freight is charged at the market rate for the route a load is actually going on, tempo to tractor to truck across all 34 blocks of Saharsa, Supaul and Madhepura, and it sits on top of whatever the steel itself is quoted at that morning. A load going into a village off the highway and one going inside town are not charged the same way, whatever grade is on the vehicle.

Sariya is sold here by the piece, the bundle, the kilogram and the metric tonne, and which basis applies to the line you want depends on the grade and on how that brand is selling it that day. Ask on the call which basis your line is going on, and the rate that comes back is fixed on that same basis, not converted from another one afterward. Not every grade and diameter is in stock in every brand on a given day; call and we confirm what is standing. Cover blocks, binding wire and the weight chart for working out a bundle's own count sit alongside the same order.

Where the standard stops

Five things move a sariya rate

IS 1786 fixes what a grade has to be, and the 2024 order fixes which diameters need the mark. Neither one fixes what iron ore, scrap or diesel for the vehicle cost this week, and that is the part that actually moves a rate day to day.

A table of grades and diameters answers what a bundle is. It does not answer what a bundle costs, and nothing written down answers that faster than a call with the grade, the diameter and the quantity ready.

Questions

Sariya ke rate ke sawal

Sariya ka rate roz kyu badalta hai?

Because it is built from several things moving at once, not one. The grade and the diameter are fixed by IS 1786:2008 and by the 2024 Quality Control Order, a mill's own list moves on its own calendar, and freight follows the vehicle and the route. Call +91 6202 967 218 with the grade, diameter and quantity, and we read the day's figure off what is standing in front of us.

Fe 500 aur Fe 550D ka rate ek jaisa hota hai kya?

Not usually, because the two are not the same thing to roll. IS 1786:2008 sets Fe 500D a tighter carbon, sulphur and phosphorus limit and a higher elongation figure than plain Fe 500, and a mill's own price list moves grade by grade rather than reading flat across all five. Ask us for both grades together on one call and we quote each on its own.

SAIL aur doosre mill ka rate ek hi din badalta hai kya?

Not necessarily. SAIL posts its own Maximum Retail Reference Price notice on its own site, and some months carry a second one revised inside the month with its own effective date. A second mill keeps its own calendar, so two brands on the same rack can move on two different days.

Rate piece ke hisaab se lagta hai ya weight ke?

Both, and which one applies to your line depends on the grade and on how that brand is selling it that day. This shop sells sariya by the piece, the bundle, the kilogram and the metric tonne, so say the size and grade on the call and we tell you which basis your line is going on before the rate is fixed.

Tempo ya truck lagne se rate badal jata hai kya?

The steel's own rate does not change with the vehicle, but the freight on top of it does. We charge freight at the market rate for the route a load is going on, tempo to tractor to truck across all 34 blocks, and it is quoted alongside the steel, not folded into it.

Before you order

Grade, diameter and vehicle before a figure

  • Which grade does the drawing or the site actually call for?

Fe 500, Fe 500D, Fe 550, Fe 550D and Fe 600 are five separate rows in IS 1786:2008, and a mill prices each on its own, so naming the grade is what fixes the call first.

  • Which diameters, and how many bundles of each?

8 mm and above carries a compulsory ISI mark under the 2024 order, 6 mm carries it only where a mill holds the licence, and 5.5 mm sits outside IS 1786 altogether. A mixed load gets quoted line by line.

  • Which brand's rack is this order coming off?

Two brands standing side by side rarely move on the same day, because each one keeps its own notice and its own calendar.

  • Piece, bundle, kilogram or tonne, which basis suits this job?

The basis is fixed on the call for the line you are buying, not assumed from the diameter or carried over from another order.

  • Which block is the load going to, and what vehicle does it need?

Freight is charged at the market rate for that route, tempo to tractor to truck, and it is quoted alongside the steel, not folded into it.

Grade, diameter and today's list decide this

Nobody prints one figure that covers every grade and every diameter on this rack, because the mills themselves do not either. Tell us the grade, the diameter, the brand if you already have one in mind, and how many bundles, and we read the day's own number off the list in front of us, fixed on the basis your line actually sells on. Ring +91 6202 967 218 and the vehicle, the basis and the rate come back in the same call.
