Jay Shree Infra keeps both makers at one godown in Saharsa and runs them out to Saharsa, Supaul and Madhepura. Nuvoco Vistas Corporation Limited reaches this counter as three sacks, the plain Nuvoco bag, Concreto and Concreto Uno. UltraTech Cement Limited reaches it as three as well, the plain sack, Premium and Weather Plus. Both names are painted on the lit board over this shop, alongside the rest of the cement rack.
A man asking which of the two is better has usually been handed one name by a mistri or a drawing, or no name at all. Six sacks stand behind those two words, and the pour decides which one of the six, more than the company printed across the front does. Every cell comes off the maker's own page, or off the standard that governs the cement type printed on a sack. Which of the six is actually standing this morning is a separate question, and it gets answered on the call.
Three of these rows are the shelf rather than the cement. Each maker sends an ordinary sack, a bag sold as the better one, and a bag made for work where damp is the worry, and this shop keeps all six. A buyer told to pay up for the better bag, or told to take something that holds water out, has the same choice open to him under either name.
The standards row prints the same on both sides, because it belongs to the law and not to either company: IS 269:2015 governs an OPC sack, IS 1489 a PPC sack and IS 455 a Portland slag sack, whoever bagged it. The Nuvoco side
Nuvoco's shelf, and the class it names
Nuvoco gives its two better sacks a cement class and puts a clock against them. Its own page for Concreto publishes the bag as premium slag cement, with the initial set at 150 to 200 minutes and the final set within 300, and lists roofing, foundations, beams, columns, plastering and brickwork against it. Concreto Uno carries the same class and the same setting times, and Nuvoco publishes it as a water repellent cement for two states, Bihar and Jharkhand. Saharsa sits inside one of them.
Nuvoco sells a different bag list in every state, which is worth knowing if a relative building in Punjab told you which sack to ask for. The other thing that comes up at this counter is the old name. Lafarge is what this cement used to be called, the sack today says Nuvoco, and a man who asks for Lafarge gets the current Nuvoco bag put on his vehicle.
The UltraTech side
Grade numbers sit on UltraTech's own page
UltraTech publishes its ordinary cement in four grades, 33, 43, 53 and 53-S, and prints what the number means: the 28 day cube strength in N per mm2 that the grade reaches. The 53-S one it publishes for prestressed railway sleepers, which is nobody's house. So a drawing carrying 43 or 53 can be held straight against what UltraTech itself has put in print, and the plain UltraTech sack is where that number gets looked for.
On the damp side UltraTech publishes Weather Plus as a water repellent cement and names the roof, the outside walls, the foundation and building a whole home as where the bag goes. Past the three sacks we keep, UltraTech publishes Super as well, and Super is not on this floor. Say that word on the phone before a vehicle is sent, and we will tell you plainly what we can fill and what we cannot.
Our take
Job by job, which sack we load
For ordinary house work, a boundary wall, a lintar, the plaster coat that closes a room, either maker's plain sack does what the drawing designs for, and the mistri's word settles it as often as the name does. Where a drawing carries a grade number, we reach for the plain UltraTech sack first, because that number can be checked against UltraTech's own printed grades. Where a tender or an approved make list wants a named cement type rather than a price tier, Concreto is the sack on this rack that carries one in print.
For a wall or a roof that has to keep water out, both makers put up a bag for it and neither one is a wrong buy: take whichever the specification names, and where nothing is named, say the job and we will read the two packs out to you before a bori is counted. Sariya for the same pour rides the same vehicle, so name both while the load is still being picked.

Asked before a cement order is fixed
Nuvoco ya UltraTech, ghar ke kaam ke liye kaun sa cement behtar hai?
Neither is a wrong buy for ordinary house work, and both stand on this rack. Each maker's plain sack is made to the standard the type printed on it calls for, so the pour turns on that type first and on the company name after. Where a drawing carries a grade number we point to the plain UltraTech sack, because UltraTech prints those grades itself; where a make list wants a named cement type, Concreto carries one.
In dono company ki kitni bori aap rakhte hain?
Three under each name, six in all. Under Nuvoco it is the plain sack, Concreto and Concreto Uno. Under UltraTech it is the plain sack, Premium and Weather Plus. Whether all six are on the floor on the morning you ring is the one thing that has to be asked on the phone.
Seelan wali deewar ke liye in dono me kaun si bori hai?
Both makers put up a bag for it. Nuvoco publishes Concreto Uno as a water repellent cement, and UltraTech publishes Weather Plus as one, naming the roof, the outside walls and the foundation. This shop keeps both and ranks neither, so take the one your specification names. Where nobody has named one, say the wall and the season and we will read both packs out to you.
Nuvoco ki har bori Bihar me milti hai kya?
No, Nuvoco publishes a different bag list state by state. Concreto is published for West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand and Odisha, and Concreto Uno for Bihar and Jharkhand only. Bihar being on both lists is the plain reason those two sacks reach Saharsa. UltraTech publishes no such state list against its bags.

A grade number belongs to the ordinary Portland family, and UltraTech is the maker of the two that prints those numbers on its own page, 33, 43, 53 and 53-S. So read the number out to us and we hold it against the plain UltraTech sacks standing that morning. The cement type and the standard number are printed on every pack as well, and we read those off the bag before it is loaded.
