Jay Shree Infra keeps ten diameters of sariya at its Saharsa godown, 5.5 mm to 32 mm, in SAIL, Tata Tiscon, Shyam Steel and four more names, and a buyer standing at the counter with a 1000 square foot plan wants one number before a mason is even booked. Not every diameter is in every brand on a given day. The range above is a planning figure and not a bar count: it comes from one manufacturer's own published chart for a two floor house, and the real order comes off the structural drawing once one exists.

Seismic detailing is what moves the range, not the slab. Shyam Steel's own chart puts more steel into the columns and the beams as the zone climbs, from 2.93 kilograms per square metre in a column on non seismic ground to 6.57 in Zone V, while the slab sitting on top of them holds at 14.21 kilograms per square metre in every zone the chart lists. A house on quiet ground and a house in a harder zone take the same slab and different columns underneath it.

Every kilogram per square metre figure above is Shyam Steel's own, published for a two storeyed house on its own site. The last column is arithmetic on that figure: 1000 square feet is 92.9 square metres, so the total is multiplied by 92.9 and rounded to the nearest kilogram. The slab row holds at 14.21 kilograms per square metre in every zone because seismic detailing changes how a column and a beam are tied and confined, not how the slab itself is designed for bending.

Read the table as a planning figure for a house still on paper, not a delivery note. Once your engineer's structural drawing exists, its own bar bending schedule is the real count, and it is very often a different one from anything on this chart.

Shyam Steel publishes a separate rule of thumb for the concrete side of the same house: residential construction runs about 85 kilograms of steel for every cubic metre of concrete against 130 for heavy industrial work, and the trade's own shorthand for the ratio is 100 kilograms of steel for every 130 kilograms of concrete. That figure moves with how many cubic metres of RCC the drawing actually calls for, a question about column sizes, beam depths and slab thickness, not about the floor area printed on a site plan.

IS 1786's own batch tolerance sits on top of whatever count a drawing settles on, a few percent either way depending on the diameter, and the sariya weight chart covers that ground in full. None of it changes what decides the real number for one house: the structural drawing, read size by size, not a floor area typed into a chart.
