Satyam is ERW pipe in three shapes, round, square and rectangular, and it comes to this counter in black. Jay Shree Infra is a Satyam dealer in Saharsa and takes it out to Saharsa, Supaul and Madhepura in our own vehicles from the godown on Meera Talkies Road. The company behind the name is Satyam Iron & Steel Company Private Limited, of Kolkata, which sells its pipe as Satyam Pipes. It is a straightforward fabrication pipe: shed columns, trusses, gate frames, grill work and furniture frames are what it goes out for.

A pipe order splits into more combinations than anything else on this rack: the shape first, then the size across, then the wall. Not every size is in every brand on a given day, so say those three on the call and we count what is standing before anything is fixed. Today's rate is answered the same way, on the day you ask. The rack this name sits on, black and galvanised together, is the MS and GI pipes page.

What we keep

Satyam pipe, black and galvanised

Two lines under the Satyam name at this counter, both pipe. Say the coating with the size and the wall.

Satyam makes more than pipe: HR coil, sponge iron, billets, blooms and slabs, steel door frames, lock plates and door guides. We keep the pipe. If a drawing calls for one of the others under this name, ask and we tell you what can be arranged.

Sizes and weights

Three shapes, three size tables, ninety nine rows

Satyam publishes one size table per shape. Round goes 20, 25, 32, 40, 50, 65 and 80 mm. Square goes 20x20, 25x25, 32x32, 38x38, 40x40, 50x50, 60x60 and 72x72. Rectangular carries nine sizes, from 25x40 up through 60x40, 75x25, 80x40 and 95x48. Ninety nine rows of size against wall sit in those three tables together, and above 72x72 in square and 95x48 in rectangular Satyam makes nothing, so a bigger section means a different brand off the same rack.

Every row ends in a weight in kilograms per piece, headed WT/PCS (2GN): 4 kg against 20x20 square at 1.0 mm, 45 kg against 80 mm round at 3.2 mm. Read that as one length as the mill cuts it, never as a weight per metre. Pipe here sells by the piece, the bundle, the kilo or the metric tonne, so fix the basis before you fix the figure. The arithmetic under any weight table is the same, and it is worked through on sariya in the sariya weight chart.

Black or galvanised

Black is what Satyam publishes

Every Satyam pipe page says ERW Black, in the heading and again in the specification under it, with no coating class or zinc figure anywhere near it. So on a GI order the brand alone settles nothing: ask for the coating and the wall.

What is embossed along a round tube, the maker's mark, the standard number and the class letter, reads the same on anybody's pipe, and it is set out with the bundle tag and the test certificate on the MS pipe page. Read us what the tube itself carries and the name on the bill becomes the second question.

The papers

IS 1239 on the pipe, two other numbers on the certificate

All three of Satyam's pipe pages state compliance with IS 1239. Its certifications page lists two BIS licences and neither one is against the finished pipe. The first is against IS 14650, steel ingot and semi-finished products for re-rolling, with its licence number in the CM/L form. The second is against IS 10748, hot rolled steel strips for welded tubes and pipes. Both cover the steel a pipe is made out of. The scope on its ISO 9001:2015 certificate reads sponge iron, MS billets, MS and HR strips, and power for its own consumption.

Where a tender wants a mark or a test certificate against the pipe itself, say so before the order is fixed, and we tell you what the bundle in this godown came in with.

Questions

Satyam ke sawal

Bill par sirf Satyam likha hai, company kaun si hai?

Satyam Iron & Steel Company Private Limited, of Kolkata. It sells the pipe under a shorter second name, Satyam Pipes, and the bill carries only the first word. Read the whole line off your bill to us and we will match it against what came in.

Satyam me galvanised pipe bhi aata hai kya?

Galvanised pipe does come to this counter under the Satyam name, though Satyam's own site publishes black ERW pipe only, in round, square and rectangular. So say galvanised when you ring, give us the size and the wall, and we will tell you what is in the godown under that name.

Table me WT/PCS (2GN) ka matlab kya hota hai?

It is Satyam's weight in kilograms for one piece, against every size and wall row in all three tables. Read the figure for the length that mill cuts, not for a metre. Ask for it by the piece and by the kilo both, and buy on whichever basis that line is moving on the day.

Pipe ki poori lambai gaon tak kaise jaati hai?

In our own vehicles, to any of the 34 blocks of Saharsa, Supaul and Madhepura, with the vehicle picked for the load and the approach road: a tempo at one end of it and a full truck at the other. A full length will not turn every corner, so say the village and what the last stretch of road is like when you ring. Carriage runs at market rates and the rest of the order rides the same trip.

Say the shape before the size

Round, square or rectangular first, then the size across, then the wall, then the length. Satyam's tables give a weight per piece and no length beside it, so say the length out loud even where the section is obvious. Give us those four and the quantity, and what is standing in that section gets counted while you are on the call. It goes out on our own vehicles to all 34 blocks of Saharsa, Supaul and Madhepura.
