Plain vs premium cement

ACC's plain sack is the one that comes back when an order names only ACC, with F2R and Gold Water Shield ruled out because neither word came with it. Nuvoco's own list of the cement it sells runs to six ranges, Concreto, Duraguard, Double Bull, Premium Slag Cement, Nirmax and Infracem, and plain is on none of them; the closest ordinary sack is published as Duraguard, a Portland Pozzolana Cement, though Duraguard itself is not sold in Bihar by Nuvoco's own state list, so what stands here under that word is read off the sack, not assumed from the range name. UltraTech names Premium, Weather Plus and Super as products of its own and names nothing plain; its ordinary OPC and PPC pages are simply its OPC and PPC pages.

So plain across this rack means one thing only: a bag with no second word riding behind the brand. It says nothing about whether the sack inside is OPC or PPC, or which grade, and that is printed on the sack itself and nowhere else.

ACC Gold Water Shield is the full name ACC prints, and ACC's own page positions it as a water repellent, premium bag; the claim is water repellency, not a strength grade, and no IS number sits beside it on that page. Nuvoco Concreto is different again: Nuvoco's own page calls it a premium slag cement, and that is a statutory family, Portland slag cement made to IS 455, with applications the maker itself lists as roofing, foundations, beams, columns, plaster and brickwork.

UltraTech Premium sits apart from both. UltraTech publishes it under that exact name, names the blend, high quality clinker, ground granulated blast furnace slag, high reactive silica and gypsum, and lists the work it is meant for. What that same page never states is a cement type: no OPC, no PPC, no PSC, no IS number, no grade. UltraTech's grade numbers, 33, 43, 53 and the special 53-S for prestressed railway sleepers, sit only on its OPC page, and its Premium page carries none of them. A drawing that names a grade has named UltraTech's OPC family, not this bag.

An engineer's drawing, or the mistri's own word where no drawing exists, calls for a cement type and a grade where the type carries one. Neither plain nor premium is that answer on its own; both are names sitting above the statutory line, and the statutory line is what a tender or an approved make list actually checks against.

Tender and project work makes this exact, since an approved list carries the maker's own product name and the bill has to carry the same one: ACC Plain is a counter name and never what ACC prints, so tender paper needs the pack name off the sack itself. The same holds for ACC Gold, Nuvoco Concreto, UltraTech Plain and UltraTech Premium, each with its own page and its own printed name.
