In EnglishFoundation, the footing and the reinforced concrete work below the plinth
A niv order comes to the counter as four names in one breath: sariya for the cage, cement for the concrete around it, cover blocks to hold that cage off the earth, and tar to tie the crossings. IS 456 fixes the cover at the footing at fifty millimetres flat, with no exposure class allowed to bring it lower, then drops to forty at the column standing on it.
Which diameter goes into a particular niv is the drawing's answer and not a guess made at the counter. Two published examples land differently, an eight millimetre mesh under one maker's own footing and a wider range where another maker writes for a home builder, so the bar bending schedule is what a call actually needs.
The first four words of a niv call
Niv ka kaam shuru ho raha hai, sariya aur cement dono chahiye.
The foundation work is starting, and both TMT bar and cement are needed. What is still missing before an order is placed is the diameter, the grade and how many bags.
The bar and the cover reading together
The bar that carries the cage, and the guide that reads the cover figures against it.
