Balmukund TMT is rolled by Balmukund Concast Ltd. at Bihta in Patna district, with a registered office in Kolkata and a branch office in Patna, and it comes in three grades: Fe 500, Fe 550 and Fe 600+. Balmukund's three grades do not begin at the same size. Fe 500 opens at 8 mm, Fe 550 at 10 mm and Fe 600+ at 12 mm, and all three run up to 32 mm, so a drawing wanting 8 mm in Fe 550 is asking Balmukund for a bar it does not roll. SeQR runs 8 mm to 25 mm as a single 550 line, with the Fe designations left off SAIL's retail page.
On the standard row, Balmukund's own licence statement quotes IS 1786:1985, an older edition of the same standard. The edition in force today is IS 1786:2008, brought under the standard mark for 8 mm and above by the Steel and Steel Products Quality Control Order of 2024, S.O. 3716(E), and every bar either maker sends this way from 8 mm up is judged by it. 5.5 mm and 6 mm sit outside that order, so an unmarked bundle in those sizes means nothing bad.

Balmukund rolls inside Bihar, at Bihta in Patna district, and that is a real point in its favour for a buyer who likes his sariya made close to home. The company also puts its whole table in the open: against every diameter it prints the ISI nominal weight per metre and its own working weight beside it, each with a tolerance band, plus the pieces in a bundle and the metres that make a tonne. Anyone who checks a load against the slip has the figures before he orders.
It is also the one of these two that rolls a grade above 550. Where an engineer writes Fe 600 on the drawing, Balmukund's Fe 600+ answers it from 12 mm up, which SAIL's retail line does not name. Order it with the grade and the diameter in the same sentence, since the grade decides how small the bar goes.
