Colour chadra is the roofing sheet that arrives already painted: metal coated steel, painted while it is still a coil, then rolled into ribs and cut to length. Jay Shree Infra sells it out of Saharsa in three thicknesses, 0.35, 0.45 and 0.47 mm, and in eight lengths running 6, 8, 10, 12, 16, 18, 20 and 22 ft, with anything off that list made to your measurement. Tata Durashine, Jindal and Kamdhenu are the names it reaches this counter under. Workshops, godowns, village PACS godowns and shed roofs in Saharsa, Supaul and Madhepura are what it goes onto, and our own vehicles carry it there.
The shade is the last thing a colour sheet gets ordered on. Length has to clear the frame. Thickness has to be quoted on a basis you know. The profile has to sit beside whatever is already up there. Then the colour. Today's rate is settled on the call. The purlins under this sheet, and the ridge, flashing and screws that close it, are on the roofing and shed page.
Sizes
The figures behind this sheet, ours and the maker's
There is no single size chart for colour chadra, because the numbers behind it belong to whoever painted the coil and not to a common trade size. Of the names that come in here, one publishes a full sheet specification.
Tata publishes its Durashine roof sheet at 0.37, 0.47, 0.52 and 0.62 mm total painted thickness, with 1015 mm of effective cover on a 1072 mm sheet, a minimum yield strength of 550 MPa, standard lengths from 8 ft to 16 ft and a minimum roof slope of 5 degrees. Its wall sheet is a separate profile, 1110 mm of cover on about 1150 mm, made to project lengths. Those are Tata's figures for Tata's sheet, and they do not describe anybody else's.
The sizes that decide anything are the ones on your roof, so bring the span to the call and the rest is worked out against it.
Kis kaam me lagta hai
Industrial sheds and workshops, warehouse and godown roofs, PACS godowns out in the villages, a canopy over a shop front, and cladding on the open face of a shed. Fabricators take it by the load against a drawing. A thekedar takes it by the roof. Somebody roofing one workshop bay walks in with a length and a colour and nothing else, and that is usually enough to start.
The sheet does not decide the frame under it. Tata puts a 5 degree minimum slope on its own roof sheet, and a roof built flatter than the sheet allows is a problem no thickness fixes. How far apart the purlins sit, how many screws go into each sheet, and what the wind does to that roof, all belong to whoever stamped the drawing, and on tender and project work we say so on the call before anything else.
Which steel the thickness figure is measuring
One sheet, two honest figures, and the difference between them lives in hundredths of a millimetre, which at 0.35 mm is a real share of the sheet. We quote a single figure without stating which basis it stands on, so that gets settled at the counter. Tata publishes Durashine roof sheet as total painted thickness, and 0.47 sits in both lists, ours and Tata's.

The mark a painted coil is meant to carry
Colour coated steel sits inside the Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order, 2024, S.O. 3716(E), and it sits there twice. Serial 33 of Schedule 1 is IS 14246:2013, continuously pre-painted galvanized steel sheets and coils. Serial 34 is IS 15965:2012, pre-painted aluminium zinc alloy metallic coated steel strip and sheet, plain. Both carry immediate effect and neither entry carves out a size. Which of the two a coil answers to turns on what is under the paint, zinc or an aluminium zinc alloy, so it is a question for the mill's certificate and the colour on top says nothing about it.
The Order wants the Standard Mark on the product under a licence from BIS, and a test certificate carrying that same mark travelling with every consignment. Both entries name coated strip and sheet, not a finished roofing profile, since the ribs are rolled in only after the paint is on. Ask for the mill's certificate rather than judging a coil off the standard's title alone.
Roof profile and wall profile do not share a width
Effective cover is what lands on your purlins once the side lap has gone into the next sheet. Overall width is what a tape gives you across one sheet lying on the ground. On Tata's Durashine those are 1015 mm and 1072 mm on the roof sheet, and 1110 mm and about 1150 mm on the wall sheet.
Work the sheet count off the cover figure. The 57 mm between the two on that roof profile adds up to a whole sheet's worth of cover in about eighteen sheets, so a roof counted off the overall width runs out before the far end. Wall sheet is published to project lengths instead of a standard list, which is why a cladding run is quoted after the measurement and not before it.
What a name on a colour bill is worth
Each of these names puts a different question to us. Jindal India's own coated steel carries names of its own, NEUCOLOR+, Sabrang, Rangeen and Jindalume, and the word Jindal by itself belongs to more than one steel company, so on a colour sheet the coil marking and the bill settle it, never the word alone. Kamdhenu's colour line we match the same way, off the coil marking and the bill.
Bokaro is the name to ask about. Bokaro is a plant of SAIL's, and on plain galvanised chadra that word does point at SAIL material, which the SAIL page sets out. Colour is where it stops. Nothing in SAIL's published product list is a colour coated sheet, so a colour bill carrying that word is somebody else's paint and we do not write it as SAIL. Read us what is printed on the sheet and on the bill and we will match it against what came in. Only one of these publishes a profile, a cover width and a thickness list you can check against a quote. Which brand a length and a colour is in on a given day is a phone call.
Durashine is Tata Steel Colors' line, and the published figures above are its. The other two we take off the coil marking and the bill. Bokaro is not one of these three and will not be: it is a word that reaches us on plain galvanised chadra, not on paint, and adding it here would bill somebody else's paint to SAIL.

Where these figures come from
Durashine is the one maker of the four that publishes a full sheet specification. The order below puts colour coated steel under the ISI mark, and the brand list behind the word Jindal comes from Jindal India's own site. Neither IS 14246 nor IS 15965 is quoted directly, only the schedule of the order that names them.

Questions
Colour chadra ke sawal
Colour chadra ka standard GC chadra wala hi hai?
No. They sit at different serials of the same order. Plain galvanised sheet is IS 277:2018, and colour coated sheet is IS 14246:2013 where the base is galvanised and IS 15965:2012 where it is an aluminium zinc alloy, at serials 33 and 34 of the Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order, 2024. Ask which one the mill's certificate names, because the paint on top will not tell you.
Chhat wali chadra deewar par bhi lag jayegi?
It will go up, but do not count a wall off a roof sheet. Tata publishes 1015 mm of effective cover on the Durashine roof sheet and 1110 mm on the wall sheet, and its wall sheet is made to project lengths instead of a standard list. Say which face you are covering when you ring, and the count comes off the right figure.
Chhat ka dhalan kam se kam kitna rakhna hoga?
Tata publishes 5 degrees as the minimum for its Durashine roof sheet. Under whatever the maker states, a sheet is being used outside what it was published for, and that call belongs to the fabricator and the engineer. Every brand publishes its own figure, so take the minimum from whoever made the sheet you are buying, and bring the slope to the call with the span.
Sheet kaatne par kata hua kinara bhi rangeen rahega?
No. The paint goes onto the coil in a continuous line before the sheet is profiled, which is what pre-painted means in the titles of both standards behind it. A cut end, a drilled hole and a screw that misses the purlin are all bare of it. Order the lengths the roof needs so the cutting happens here, and tell us on the call if a length has to be made to your measurement.
Naap ki lambai me colour chadra banwana ho to kya batana hoga?
Length, thickness, profile, colour, and how many sheets of each length, all in the one call. Anything off our eight standard lengths is made to your measurement, and a made length is fixed against what the brand has actually come in at, so it gets settled on the phone before a sheet is cut. Add the village, because the sheet goes out on our own vehicles and a long sheet narrows which one can take it.
